This species found in the wild from Central Mexico through Central America and Western South America. It is naturally adapted to high rainforests and is cultivated for its sweet yellow to purplish fruits. Vining to 5m with leaves broadly ovate to 15cm with 10cm flowers greenish white with petals white or tinged pink. The long tendrils need lots of support for climbing, it may also be grown as a houseplant in a sunny South-facing window. Will tolerate light frosts but prefers to be frost free over winter.
